First Stop: An Ancient Ocean
Look at the Megalodon the molars in West Java, Indonesia. About 20 million years ago, warm marine habitats were present in dry areas that exist today. Megalodons and other marine creatures lived in these prehistoric seas, as did Megalodons.
Megalodon also shed teeth in a way similar to modern sharks. Some of the teeth were buried in marine sediments. If the conditions were right, burial protected them so long that fossilization could occur.
Then geology came in.
